Tall ships and sore nips

I know I know...tacky and too much information. However this post is all about the two things that are consuming me right now. I'll start with the bad and end on the good.

Oliver has decided that eating every 3 hours is not enough. He wants "More! More! More!"! As a result, we are not sleeping. BUT as a result of neither of us getting sleep we are very giddy and so are laughing ALL OF THE TIME. Seriously. We almost woke Oli up to the sounds of our guffaws. Oh well, there are worse ways to wake up...

Now for the good part! The Tall Ships Festival starts tomorrow night and check out a some of these beauties! I think I must have been a mermaid or a siren or hell even a wench in a past life because seeing tall ships on the ocean provides a thrill unlike many others. Anyhow-I cannot wait. Will be dressing Oliver in a lil' sailor suit that Grandma sent. This is the only time he will wear it as per Matthew's wish. Many a pic to follow....

Eastern Townships

So the wedding was beautiful. Dad was gorgeous and Oliver was adorable. A major hit. I drank my first full beer since finding out I was pregnant. It was delicious. Made sure it was Keiths to honour the fact that I am now a Haligonian.

Took some beautiful photos of Quebec. Rolling hills and trees trees everywhere. We found a little lake just past Richmond and had a mini picnic with Smalliver. I have now been to every province except Newfoundland. Can't wait to hit that up this summer. I love the east coast.....




Off to Joyce's cottage for a little bit of dinner....

First Father's Day

I am short on time right now, but know that there is a funny story to accompany our first Father's Day. It involves a soccer ball, 90 km an hour wind and pouring rain. Interest peaked?

Love you Matthew...best Daddy ever. You truly deserve a month.

And we're IN!

Last night was our first night in our new house....and Oliver slept the whole night!!! He must have known how much I truly needed it. WE have been in here day and night since June 1st getting the house in move-in condition: tiling floors, painting, cleaning, good lord a lot of cleaning.

I have fallen in love with the house though. A little cape cod on a corner lot with a lake 10 steps away. I hear kids swimming and see canoes every day. The entire street looks like the English country side. Forget-me-nots and buttercups are scattered all over our lawn. It truly is an amazing home.

Being near Matthew's family has also been amazing. I didn't realize how much help I needed. Trying to do it all does not work. Matt's Mum is down from England and has been a MASSIVE help. Oliver has really enjoyed getting to know all of his new uncles and aunts too! Uncle Iain and Aunty Gillian are getting closer to their due date (end of October) so we are all getting excited.

Anyhow, I will try and catch everyone up to speed with the goings on in Team LMnO. Oh yeah, that's our new family name. LMnO...(Lisa Matt n Oli)

Growing.

7 weeks

A while back, Matt and I decided to try to document Oliver's growth by photographing him with something static. We had originally thought of a quilt with a crazy pattern, but decided on the polar bear that was my Grandma's. This polar bear has been in the Wiebe family for a good 25 years.

When we were younger, ALL of the grandchildren sat on his lap or jumped on his head (the boys wrestled it). Grandma Lily said that the first of her grandchildren to have a baby would get to have the bear, and lo and behold, c'est moi!

Starting at 3 weeks old, we documented Oliver against the bear. Then at 5 weeks, then at 7 weeks. We are going to continue this until he is 18. Jokes. Perhaps not every 2 weeks though.

*Update: At Oliver's 8 week check-up (and sadly the final visit with Susan our midwife), he weighed 13 pounds and 12.5 ounces. She laughed when he barely fit on the scale- he is sooo long now too! He scored perfectly on all of his tests and Mommy did too!

*Update #2: He slept 6.5 hours STRAIGHT last night. I was so confused that I got up at 5 cause I couldn't sleep anymore. Yay Oliver! You certainly deserve the title of 'Sir' today!

Been a long time since I rock and rolled

New discovery: Oliver loves Led Zeppelin. Specifically LZ IV. What a kid.

Can't take my mind off of you.

15 days til due date. All I can think of is baby. I am pretty sure we have everything ready. Well, the play list for the delivery room is ready and that was a big thing. Some real gems. I am hoping that baby is born to something by Sigur Ros. Maybe 'Staralfur' or 'Hoppipolla'. Yeah, 'Hoppipolla' would be such a great intro to our weird little planet. I wonder if I'll have enough control that when i am about to push baby out to say, "Would you mind skipping forward a few tracks?' Ha! Or what about 'Feeling Good' by Nina Simone? Hmmmm.....Or what about Lykke Li's 'Dance dance dance'?






The nursery is officially done now too. We found a wonderful little dresser at an antique store. Matt sanded it down a bit and we really liked the finished effect. Not sure if it'll stay like this for long, but it looks super swell right now. Haven't put the knobs back on yet. We bought 3 succulents for the room too. Our bird mobile is almost finished too. Yeah, Matt and I decided we aren't the greatest of sewers, but it's the thought that counts right? (It should look like this...)




And last but not least, here is the outfit we picked out for baby to come home in. Ummmm, how adorable is that little hat????? (If you look closely you can see the shadow from my belly at the bottom...Ha!)

An Awesome Book

Over the last several months I have started paying close attention to children's lit. Going through my morning blog list, I came across a new book on Design Mom's site. IT is called 'An Awesome Book' by new author Dallas Clayton. It both filled me with smiles and tears as I remember when my dreams were about cars that ran on jelly beans. The first edition sold out in 2 weeks, but the second edition is slated to be released any day now.

Been a long time comin'

I haven't posted anything in a really long time now. Being away for 3 weeks and then coming home trying to get everything in order takes a lot of energy and I am not sure if you know this but the third trimester is exhausting.

The nursery is almost finished, and by somewhat of an accident, we have made it a nature theme. I had intended for it to be vintage, but as we went along it took on a life of its own. It is my fave room in the house now. After receiving this




from Matthew for Christmas, how could it not be.

Anyhow, I started out knowing that I wanted the room to be a crisp white. Matt came up with the idea to paint the ceiling a pale pale blue and moosh some clouds in there.



Originally I had thought of getting old children's books and taking the illustrations and framing them, then hanging them around the room as sort of a border. However upon a visit to one of my fave stores in Van, The Regional Assembly of Text, I found the most beautiful flashcards. One robin, two cardinals, three hummingbirds....so perfect. They are beautifully illustrated 8 x 10 cards numbering 1 - 10. We have placed them around three walls like this



We decided to avoid buying a change table and instead buy a dresser that we can place our fancy shmancy heated change pad on top of. Still looking though....

We are so excited for baby to arrive. The due date isn't technically for 35 more days, but my midwife told me to prepared for three weeks before as well. Since she told me this last week I have been scrambling around PoCo trying to get things in order. On the list for today? HOSPITAL BAG/GOODY BAG! I like calling it a goody bag. Makes it seem like I am getting ready to go to a party. I suppose it is a party, a birth day party. I wonder if I should bring a gift?

Anyhow, I am trying to get my Thank You cards for all of the amazing baby gifts we have received in order, but am finding it difficult to sit myself down to actually get on with it. Rest assured, you are all in my thoughts (and Matty's).

Good things come in big bellies...

So here is my tummy at week 25. I feel baby kicking ALL of the time. I thought it would be weird, but I really like it...It is very comforting. Matt felt it for the first time 2 weeks ago. He liked it too. :) Babies are cool.

Also, CONGRATULATIONS to Bex and Ez on the arrival of wee lil' Leif. Becca you are a rockstar. Reminds me of how one year ago, Erin, Becca and I were knee-dip in sake and sushi...My how things change....Love you girls.

What a Difference a Day Makes...

Holy Macaroni. I have just fallen completely head over heels in love. Today, Matt and I saw our little baby! Baby was sucking its thumb and Momma lost it. Mr. Ultrasound Man had to keep chasing baby's feet around cause baby was excited to meet Mom and Dad too. I just cant believe it-what a beautiful beautiful experience....

Now let me introduce you to our little one:

Pop!

I thought belly buttons weren't supposed to start popping until later. Hmmmmmph. Dr. said there is no such thing as 'supposed to' in pregnancy. 18 weeks and going strong.
